A member asked:

Could a person with hiv live to a very old age?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possibly.: A person who is diagnosed with HIV and who gets started on antiretroviral medications early and who takes the medications faithfully and who takes care of him/herself well may live for many decades with the infection (into sixties or seventies or perhaps even longer) and die of something else. The medications treat the disease but do not cure it, and hence the patient has to be compliant.
