Could amitryptiline be taken indefinitely for someone who has irritable bowel syndrome/colitis?

Potentially: There is no absolute time limit that can stay on this medication. If you find that it is helping with your ibs symptoms and you don't experience any side effects, your doctor may recommend that you maintain this therapy for the long term. Please note that ibs and colitis are not the same thing. While Amitriptyline has been used with some success in ibs, it does not treat colitis.
