Yes, go to ER: If you feel that is a medical emergency do not hesitate and go to ER. However, back pain is a is a very common chronic condition, affecting about 10-12% percent of the adult population in the US. Nerve impingement can be caused by being sandwiched between two spinal bones, pressed by a bulging. It can cause muscle spasm and back pain. Prevention treatment is always recommended and no need for ER.
