Thyroid cancer?: Hi. Safe to assume that was done for thyroid cancer (either papillary or follicular); I'll proceed along that assumption. Your endocrinologist will put you on thyroid hormone (levothyroxine) and give the incision a couple of months to heal. Then he/she will give you TSH injections to stimulate iodine uptake by thyroid cells then treat you with radioactive iodine to kill any residual thyroid cells.
