Takes practice: A normal lymph node is not anchored in space within the tissue and thus exhibits "give" when palpated. In the context of acute inflammation, when more lymphoid cells travel to and are contained within the node, it is larger but still mobile. In some cases of chronic inflammation involving fibrotic changes, the node becomes fixed or anchored to structures. Takes some practice to differentiate.
