Thyroidectomy: If one develops hypothyroidism(underactive thyroid) after thyroid removal, the condition is easily treated by prescribing the proper amount of thyroid supplement. The starting dose is low and adjusted upwards according to subsequent thyroid blood tests.

Overactive thyroid: Treatment for your overactive thyroid gland involves surgical removal. Most people require lifelong thyroid replacement therapy but this is completely safe and well tolerated. As long as you monitor periodically with your doctor you will be just fine. Take care!
