Many months: As breastfed babies gain weight, they are able to go longer without a feeding. In the first few months, they need to feed more frequently. Babies vary and some will nurse very efficiently and then be able to go longer. Remember that by breastfeeding your baby, you're giving him/her the best possible start in life.

Every baby differs: Frequency of breast feeding depends on age and weight of the baby, as well as quality ; quantity of milk with each feeding. Most babies who weigh about 12 pounds will be able to sleep 6 hours at night, but then will often cluster feed during the day to compensate. Some babies fast and stop after 1 side, and only get a 1/2 feeding. Limit side 1 to 10 min, then switch. Mom needs fluids ; rest.
