What pattern of heredity does type 1 diabetes follow?

I am not sure: In most cases of type 1 diabetes, people need to inherit risk factors from both parents. We think these factors must be more common in whites because whites have the highest rate of type 1 diabetes. Because most people who are at risk do not get diabetes, researchers want to find out what the environmental triggers are.

Multifactorial: There are many conditions that have a variety of factors, often located on different chromosomes and so inconsistent that inheritance is not clear. These are called multifactorial.Instead of being dominant (50% risk to offspring) recessive (25% risk) or X linked (risk to males), these have risks in the 5%+/- range because of the many inputs.
