Sore throat ; cough: One reason may be allergies. Drainage down the back of the throat, especially at night when you lay down, can cause throat irritation and soreness. Mucus can collect at the back of the throat causing you to cough. Another reason may be acid reflux. Acid may creep up your esophagus when you lay down and irritate the throat and upper airways causing a sore throat and cough. Check with your doc again.
