Garlic does have...: ...Known anti-viral properties, and is said to boost the immune system in general, but i could find no evidence, other than individual anecdotes, that it actually prevents colds, no matter how much you eat. Since you are supposed to eat it raw, it could have a preventative effect because nobody will want to talk to you, so nobody will get close enough to give you their cold!

Eat Gilroy, CA: You could consume all the garlic in the world and not prevent infection. It might be a good prophylactic in keeping people away from you, unless they were also consuming lots of garlic. There is no reliable evidence that garlic is therapeutically effective in any disease process, but it probably does not hurt you, and certainly makes many foods more tasty. Go garlic.
