Myiasis: No, although maggot therapy has been used to debride necrotic tissue in wounds, you are talking here about a malignant infestation. The larvae need to be removed by a trained surgeon. The wound is cleaned daily after the larvae are removed. Proper hygiene of wounds is very important when treating myiasis. Sometimes medication is given, depending on the type of larva that causes the infestation.

After removal, the wound is left open and should be cleaned well at least daily. Proper hygiene of wounds is very important when treating myiasis.
