Either can be: Kidney infections are pyelonephritis, kidney abscess or pyonephrosis(pus in kidney) all are potentially serious & potentially life threatening if left untreated. Similarly liver infections, hepatitis, liver abscesses or infected obstructed bile ducts can all be very serious.
