Relaxation technique: In general, avoid using the bed for wakeful activities such as reading or watching tv. However, if reading or watching tv has helped in the past, continue to use them. Lie down in bed only if you are sleepy. Relaxation techniques can help you get into a state that is conducive to falling asleep. Slow breathing and thinking of something calming is a simple to use relaxation technique.

Sleep hygiene: Getting up at same time every day, 7 days per week, regular exercise but not right before bed, and going to sleep at the same time every night. If you aren't using stimulants and this doesn't help, see your doctor for a work up of the problem. Relaxation exercises can lis be very helpful.
