Seasonal flu: It is very common viral infection. Usually the condition resolves on its own with home care. Drink water and get a good rest. If there is no improvement or sore throat is severe or lasts longer than another week, or you are getting joint pain; see your pcp for evaluation. Hope it helps.

Cold: If you do have troubles breathing besides that of nasal congestion, you will need to turn yourself to see a doctor promptly as it may be lodging in your lungs. If you have troubles breathing through your nose, try over-the-counter decongestants (sudafed, afrin for no more than 3 days in a row) or better off humidifier mist inhalations and nasal rinses with neti pot (may be hard at first).
