A member asked:

Can a menisectomy, extruded meniscus stage 3 osteoarthritis lead to an earlier total knee replacement?

Depends on whether -: The oa continues to get worse or as in some individuals it slows down in its progress. Every person is different, so can have a different timing for the tkr. Check with your orthopod. Generally most people would have it earlier than someone who does not have a menisectomy.

Yes: If you have stage 3 oa, you have lost much of the cartilage on that side of the knee. If the rest of the knee is normal, there are options such as osteotomy or partial knee replacement that can work well if medical treatments or injections do not keep you comfortable.
