Incorrect info: Schizophrenia is an illness that rarely affects children, usually begins in the teenage years, and generally fully appears in early adulthood. Your experience, far from being unusual, is a more typical situation of being diagnosed at around age 20. If you begin serious, committed treatment with a truly competent psychiatrist, you will get the best chance of doing as well as you can.

It can happen.: There is no set age when schizophrenia starts. Usually, it starts in late adolescence and the early 20's. This is true for both sexes and the prevalence is equal for men and women. Rarely, a child and older adult can exhibit symptoms of schizophrenia.
