Rx first opinion 2nd: You may wish to try brushing your tongue gently with a tooth brush with or without toothpaste. You can also consider a mild hydrogen peroxide or similar rinse to help control the bacteria. If the problem persists you should check with your dentist.

Your experience of lingual papillitis will help introduce you to an important medical fact -- the more trivial the disease, the less likely we are to find the cause or ever come up with any explanation.
