A member asked:

What is the relationship between the mesentery and food digesting?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Nutrient delivery: The mesentery is the anatomic term for the tissues that connect the intestine to the body thru which the blood vessels and lymphatics run. Nutrients are absorbed by the intestine and travel thru the mesentery to reach the rest of the body. Like any organ, oxygen is needed to sustain life--this travels to the intestine thru the same vessels.
