Call a dentist: The wisdom tooth in question may need to be extracted. It needs to be examined to know for sure.

Operculum: The gum over your wisdom tooth is inflamed. You may have some food stuck beneath it that must be removed. While it may hurt to "probe" in this area, brush well and rinse 2-3x/hr with warm salt water for the next day or so. If the swelling does not subside, contact your dds for examination. You may need the gum tissue or the tooth removed to prevent reoccurrence.

That depends: It could simply be food stuck behind the tooth. It could be the gum tissue getting squished between the top tooth and the bottom tooth. It could be the beginning of an infection. An evaluation by your dentist is the best way to figure out which of these is causing your problem. In the mean time warm salt water rinses may help flush out anything that is caught back there and make it feel better.

Oral Surgeon: If your wisdom tooth is giving you such a problem, it means the tooth probably needs to be extracted. The swelling could be an infection, just inflammation, but either way it needs to be evaluated. Call today for an appointment.

Yes sure: If you are referring to the soft tissue sitting behind you second molar (last molar in the back) the third molars/wisdom teeth can go through periods of eruption and quiescence, and while trying to erupt can elevate the soft tissue physically and also due to inflammation and infection. You should have a consult with and oral and maxillofacial surgeon to evaluate.
