Have it evaluated: A bunion is a progressive disorder which usually has a genetic component. Bunions may also result from trauma or due to a biomechanical abnormality. Conservative options include the use of bunion toe spacers, strapping, orthoces, and use of more comfortable shoes. If you do not have significant relief of pain surgical management is also an option.

See the podiatrist: See the podiatrist. Does it hurt and impact all your daily activities or just walking? Conservative treatments focus on getting rid of the irritation at the bunion that cause the joint inflammation at the site. Topical, oral and injectable medications, orthotics and shoes may be used. If surgery is needed, procedures depend on the severity of the deformity. Individual assessment is key!
