Depends on cause.: One is on the "vent" because of hypoxic failure=low oxygen or hypercarbic failure=high carbon dioxide. So depends why she is on the vent. Need to clarify this. If ARDS then may need a trach. Likewise if on vent due to copd. Complicated answer to your question. Could also be due to muscle weakness. The therapist should "wean" her every day and try to liberate her from the vent. To many variables.
