No....severe : No....Severe swelling over the site is not normal. Severe swelling could be due to several things. The first possibility is infection. Poorly prepped areas or improperly stored vaccine can lead to trouble. Second is hematoma (a blood clot under the skin). Its always advisable to aspirate a little before injecting to make sure your not in a blood vessel. It is advisable to go back to the doctor who administered the shot.

Soreness : Soreness and swelling can occur. If it is severe she should seek medical attention.

Localized : Localized swelling at an injection site can occur. This is more common when receiving vaccinations that we have received in the past. This swelling may last for several days. Antihistamines, cold compresses and nsaids can be beneficial at times.
