See a doctor: Melena - black stools - can be caused by iron pills or pepto bismal and others. So, unless it is a continuing problem, don't worry. However, upper intestinal bleeding does cause melena. Stomach ulcers, polyps, inflammation, and many other things can result in melena. Do see a doctor. An upper GI series or an endoscopy can easily detect a problem - almost all are easily treated.
