A member asked:

My mother is 84 yrs old & has suffered with angina for some years now , is her confusion & memory loss over the last 2-3 yrs caused by her condition?

Possibly: Confusion can be caused by several things. Angina is caused by blockages of arteries in the heart. This often goes along with blockages in other areas of the body including the brain. Multiple small strokes can result in memory loss and confusion. A few other causes include infection, alzheimer's, and depression.

Probably not: Angina relates to heart circulation or lack of it. However, the atherosclerosis may affect cerebral arteries also and that at her age is more likely to relate to vascular dementia.
