Yes, very well: It most certainly does. It helps the person quickly identify and move through those things that are causing the anxiety on an ongoing basis. And, it doesn't take years, or even months, of therapy. In fact, this is a treatment that has received a lot of attention, and has a large amount of research behind it. Best to find someone who has been trained and certified in emdr. Avoid the knock-offs.

EMDR has been used widely for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and phobias. It can be used for generalized anxiety as well as specific anxieties. It has also been used for depression, where there's an element of anxiety involved. It's even been utilized for performance enhancement, and for people suffering from chronic pain. All of these when used by a skilled practitioner trained in the use of EMDR
