Respiratory stimulnt: The caffeine in many teas are chemicals called methylxanthines. These have a mild respiratory stimulant effect. Caffeine is a cousin of aminophyllin, but there is no theophyllin in tea. Teas may be have a mild soothing effect, but their use in management of true asthma events is meager at best.
