Anti-inflammatory: Prednisone, like other steroids, is useful in reducing inflammation in certain, especially chronic, inflammatory conditions. However, one of the possible side effects is represented by edema (soft tissue swelling due to retention of fluid). So Prednisone usually reduces the swelling associated with inflammation but may sometimes cause swelling due to edema.
