MDS is treatable: And can have long periods of control. Lower risk does have the longest period of evolution. In younger patients stem transplant is a curative, but potentially more toxic option, usually reserved for higher risk patients.

Here are more answer: I have addressed some of it before. But here is more. The future of mds is not predictable...It is typically progressive but not always, as other conditions can come in the way for elderly pts.. Staying as a red cell alone, is a distict possibilitity but we can not guarantee it. So make sure you have a good hematologist to monitor and guide you. In your case i even doubt that you have definite mds.

See below...: Mds is a malignant process and is irreversible if left untreated. It can be kept under control with appropriate treatment and even cured sometimes with a bone marrow transplant. It may be very slowly evolving but it never stops and continues to progress. If can remain low risk for many years but it can also become high risk or transform into leukemia.
