Pressure: When there is a strong headwind, it creates a vacuum effect around your face. This lowers the pressure of the atmosphere around you, making it difficult to draw a breath in. To draw a breath in, the pressures within your lungs have to be lower than the atmospheric pressure and is difficult to attain in a strong wind. Breathing in cold air will sting because lungs have nerves sensitive to cold!
