Asthma control: Your shortness of breath may be a sign of uncontrolled asthma. If you are not already taking a daily medication, it may be time for one. If the asthma is well controlled and you continue to experience shortness of breath, other causes should be investigated by your doctor.

Medication & warm up: Exercise is one of the most common triggers of asthma. It can occur by itself or be a symptom of uncontrolled persistent asthma. Doing a warm up and albuterol inhaler before exercise works for many patients. Other medications that can be used are montelukast (singulair). There are other reasons for shortness of breath if symptoms persist despite asthma treatment.
