Great alternative: Dental bridges are a series of procedures used to recreate a missing tooth. A tooth-supported fixed bridge is the most common alternative to dental implant. It has several disadvantages when compared to dental implants like grinding away adjacent teeth, but they last long. Look good and supply the necessary function. Rec.: see your dentist for patient education appointment.

Replacing teeth: First make sure dental implants are not an option. If $ is the issue think long term comfort and costs. If inadequate bone is the problem, get a consult from best periodontist\surgeon in the area. Second best replacement option is fixed bridge as long as holding teeth are sound and in the hands of a qualified dentist. One caveat-would hate to drill down two perfectly good teeth to replace one!

Reasons ?: Dental implants mimic your natural teeth, and fixed prosthetics come in a close second. The answer to your question for your mouth depends on the condition of the supporting teeth. A local dentist, after examining you, can best give you the pros and con's.

Options: There are some options, but it depends upon the teeth and tooth structure that would possibly serve as abutments (anchors) for a bridge or removable partial. If in doubt, get more than one opinion.

More invasive: While a dental implant involves a surgery to be placed, it is actually more conservative than treating the teeth on either side of a space in your mouth to make a cemented fixed bridge. The cost is approximately the same for both. The only exception would be if the teeth that would anchor the cemented fixed bridge would benefit from being transformed into abutment crowns.
