Slowly: Diet and uric acid lowering drugs can make tophi dissolve but it is a very slow process. There is one new drug, krystexxa, (pegloticase) which is given intravenously every two weeks if the standard drugs, Allopurinol and febuxostat, fail or are not tolerated. Krystexxa (pegloticase) is very effective but expensive and intravenous (as opposed to the oral medications).
