A member asked:

In xray report of right knee for oa, small osteophytes over bones are seen. is it the sign of tophi/gout ? what is the remedy?

Usually not: Osteophytes are usually present on osteoarthitis, gout produce small cystic formations around the joint and some times calcifications, they can coexist in a given joint. No cure for oa however they are measures theat can control symptoms.Treatment for gout is usually medication with diet and life style modification.

No: Osteophytes ar e like little spurs this is consistent with arthritic changes not gout. With gout you will see a marcel's sign which is an erosion of bone like a punched out lesion (with a cortical overhang) which means the shell of the bone overhangs the part that is eroded.
