A member asked:

I have a little tophi on my toe and elbow but no pain or swelling or redness..why does the tophi grow?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Slowly: Tophi are related to uric acid crystals depositing in and around the joints and sometimes other parts of the body. They are a sign of severe gout and getting treatment is very important. There are safe ways to manage this with medications such as Allopurinol and uloric. Without treatment you runs the risk of having a deforming type of gout that can be associated with disability.
