Can you explain if it's possible for thyroid problems to be inherited?

Thyroid Problems: The tendency for thyroid problems can certainly be inherited, for example an immune response to gluten. Some thyroid issues are due to nutritional deficiencies in iodine, selenium, zinc, etc., and families tend to have a similar diet, so it could be due to the same inadequate diet, too.

Autoimmune thyroid: Autoimmune thyroid disease includes Hashimotos thyroiditis and Graves disease. Both are inherited; Your mom can have Hashimotos, and you can have Graves, and vice versa. If you are concerned, see your doctor; if it is complicated, see an Endocrinologist. Actually, the American diet is rich in iodine, and it is almost impossible to be deficient.
