Reflux Hiatal Hernia: Hiatal hernia (hernia of stomach thru diaphragm into chest) may result in gastro-oesophageal reflux; the reflux of stomach contents up into the esophagus. These contents are often acidic ; sour and may result, in addition to heartburn, the sensation of gagging in some patients. Many times h.H. Can be treated with diet ; medications. Yes but other causes: Stomach hernia or hiatal hernia, is where the lower esophageal sphincter, which controls passage of food between the stomach and esophagus. Is not in the normal location and can cause symptoms of reflux or heartburn. The gag reflex involves the muscles of the back of the throat start to contract in order to prevent us from swallowing or aspirating. Many conditions are associated with gagging.
