A member asked:

Serous otitis adult: i have a serous otitis . i will have had 3 days of treatment before i take the plane. is it ok?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Probably not: A serous effusion in the middle ear is the result of inflammation of the eustachian tube. If you fly and can not equalize pressure through the tube, you may hemorrhage into the middle or inner ear and develop permanent hearing loss and severe vertigo. I would advise that an ENT doctor remove the fluid and insert a ventilation tube before you fly or cancel the flight and wait.
