See Your Doctor: Fluid behind the eardrum can persist for 6 to 12 weeks in many patients; is usually self-limited. A watchful waiting approach is all that is necessary for most. Nasal Steroid sprays may be beneficial in speeding up the process in some cases. If resolution does not occur, then referral to an ENT specialist for drainage and tube placement may be necessary. See your doctor for follow-up and treatment plan.
