A member asked:

Is it okay to give my 18 month old pediasure, since she hasn't been eating due to chicken pox?

Nutrition/illness: Yes. Pediasure is safe to use in this context. It will provide calories and fluids to sustain your child through the 7-10 day illness until she feels well enough to resume her normal diet.

Sounds good: If she'll take the pediasure, it seems like a good idea.

Why?: Pediasure literature says that the product is not intended for children under age 2. It's probably safe for an 18-month-old, but you child isn't going to get significantly malnourished in the 7-10 days it will take for her to regain her appetite. If you keep her well-hydrated with water and fruit juices, an expensive nutritional supplement isn't really necessary.
