A member asked:

Found a thyroid nodule, via ultrasound in july, 2012 at 9mm; it was evaluated again yesterday at about 1.06cm. fna recommended for this size?

An enlarging nodule: Is usually an indication for fna. Other things to look at include: family history, medical history, nodule's appearance on ultrasound, thyroid blood tests including serum thyroglobulin level. Discuss w/your doctor.

Probably not...: If the nodule is mostly cystic, FNA is not indicated. If the nodule is solid or mostly solid, FNA may be considered (depending on family history) even it is around 1 cm.
