I have bipolar and depression. my dr has put me on zoloft then changed it to effexor (venlafaxine). nothing seems to wrk but i do drink in daily. can that be why?

Yes: Alcohol is a depressant and can often counteract and interact with the medications you are on. Tell the doctor exactly how much you are drinking and work with them on a plan.

Well...: Mood stabilizers are recommended for bipolar disorder - antidepressants might flip someone into mania. Looks like you drink a lot - that can really screw with a bipolar brain and render treatment ineffective. If you aren't seeing a psychiatrist - would recommend that.

Drink?: When you say "drink, " do you mean alcohol -- or do you mean taking the medicine? I don't see any mood stabilizers in your medications -- and it's dangerous for people with bipolar disorder to be on antidepressants without them. Please work with a psychiatrist -- it doesn't sound like you are! psychiatrists know many ways to help people with bipolar depression. Best wishes.

Alcohol: Alcohol is a depressant. Drinking daily can contribute to depression. Alcohol is always stronger then any antidepressant. See a psychiatrist and try to remain sober.
