A member asked:

I read that proteus mirabilis produces ammonia? so what if i disinfect a area with ammonia or windex? will it disinfect it or make it stronger?

Proteus mirabilis: Proteus mirabilis produces ammonia as a by-product of its metabolism, it does not use it as a food source. Wiping down an area with an ammonia-based cleaner will not make it stronger. By-products of metabolism are often actually toxic to the organism. Using an ammonia-based cleaner should disinfect well.
