Nutrician: Most authorities recommend a maximum of 24-32 oz of milk/day so that a child will be motivated to consume their other needed calories from a broader array of foods. Water should be consumed in sufficient quantities to satisfy thirst, replace losses associated with aerobic activity and allow for non-constipated bowel movements.

Varies: The body is a terrific self regulator (termed homeostasis). The amount of water and milk needed will vary with activity, sex, size and season. Your child will be hungry when he needs more calories and nutrition and will be thirsty when he needs fluids. A strict "so many glasses" per day is not needed.
