A member asked:

18 year old male elevated alt and alp sludge was seen on us but hida scan was 40%. do have pain near gallbladder that comes and goes. treatmentoption?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Low fat or surgery: Look - sludge is just small granular stones. All stones in the gb start as small crystals which fall out of solution (precipitation) and gradually enlarge. If one has typical RUQ pain, nausea, fatty food intolerance, and/or bloating, then laparoscopic cholecystectomy would be recommended.Your hida ef of 40% is technically normal but on the low end. Low fat will minimize your symptoms. Good luck.
