Eustachian tube: The ear popping is likely do to transient opening of a eustachian tube that has swollen do to the cold.That will often trap mucous in the middle ear and reduce hearing while it is there. This can take a few weeks to clear up but should do some over time. If it becomes painful or you run fever, have your doc see if it became infected.
