Swelling in lip: Without an examination, i can only guess what it might be but your description makes it sound like either a blood blister perhaps from trauma or a plug minor salivary gland or mucocele. It can be easily removed by an oral surgeon, go see your dentist soon for an diagnosis/exam.

Stop poking it: You did not say if you had this for a while or it just came up. Do you get a smell with it when it's poked? Does it hurt you when it comes back? Does it tingle when it comes back? Do you have these anywhere else on your body? Is the bump the same color as your skin or is it darker? Did you have a cut on your lip before it came up? Do you smoke or use tobacco products at all?
