Hysteroscopy: It's most likely that your iud just got inserted a little too far or at an angle, causing the arms to get lodged into the uterine wall, as opposed to just resting gently in the uterine cavity. The removal surgery is usually fairly benign. Usually a hysterosocpy where they use a camera to find its exact location in the uterus and pull it out with gentle traction. Sometimes this isn't even necessary.
