Limited usefulness: C-reactive protein is very useful in making the diagnosis of a couple of uncommon illnesses, such as temporal arteritis, in which it is much elevated. It is neither sensitive nor specific for anything else, and especially, as a pathologist i'm unimpressed with it as a screen for any health risk -- it's neither sensitive nor specific, and generates useless worry. Live healthy ; forget it.
