Fertility: 35 is not really a magic number; the risk of infertility and pregnancy abnormalities and complications increases with age in general. It's just that 35 is a number that we use that equates the risk of a genetic abnormality with the risk of the test used to diagnose it (amniocentesis). Women are born with a lump sum of eggs that decreases with each menses. It's expected for fertility to drop.
