Chronic renal: Longstanding hypertension is only one cause of renal failure. Chronic inflammation, infection, diabetic nephropathy are some other causes. In other words the hypertension causes the chronic renal failure although many kidney diseases can cause hypertension. You may have normal blood pressure in the presence of chronic renal failure however.
